Pope Francis on lamented, in his words after the Sunday Angelus prayer, the recent terrorist attack on a Ugandan school, in which 42 students were killed.

From the window of his study in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, the Pope told thousands of faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square, “I also pray for the young students, victims of the brutal attack” on a school in western Uganda.

Referring to this terrorist action, allegedly committed by members of the so-called Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an armed group linked to the Islamic State (IS), Pope Francis condemned “this struggle, this war everywhere” and called to pray for peace.

The Holy Pontiff recalled that next Tuesday, June 20, is World Refugee Day, promoted by the United Nations, and “with great sadness and pain I think about the victims of the very serious shipwreck that occurred in recent days off the coast of Greece.”

In that tragedy, which occurred last Wednesday, 47 miles southwest of the Greek city of Pylos, at least 79 immigrants died while 104 were rescued and most of nearly 700 people who were traveling on that boat, bound for the Italian coast, are still missing.
