The Raipillán folk group, from Chile, directed by Maestro Fabiola Salinas Ubilla and in which choreographer John Duarte Medina collaborates, will perform at the Guaso Theater in Guantanamo, starting from October 29, as part of a tour promoting cultural exchange between the Andean and Antillean nations.
Raipillán, which is part of the more than 100 delegates from 16 countries participating from Tuesday, October 24 to 28, in the Ibero-American Culture Festival in Holguín, was already on stage in Bayamo during the celebration of Cuban Culture Day, where they performed Tiare Varua – Espiritu del Valle Central, to be also brought to this part of the island.
With an estimated duration of 53 minutes, Tiare Varua invites us to enjoy and learn about traditional dances and music from the Rapa Nui island of Chile, pertaining to the Valparaíso region, famous for its archaeological sites, including nearly 900 “moais”, monumental statues created by the inhabitants in the 13th to 16th centuries.
In addition to the show, the company’s teachers plan workshops to teach Chilean and Latin American folklore, language, mathematics, and clinical psychological care, in order to provide help in the psychosocial field.
Raipillán is a non-profit foundation created in 2004, which has financing from the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, through the Other Collaborating Institutions (OIC) program.
It was created to welcome, support and provide spaces for social reintegration and prevention through folk dance and culture, granting places of interest and active participation to people with limited resources and social exclusion, with dependence on alcohol or drugs.
