Guantanamo.- The president of the Cuban Olympic Committee, Roberto Leon Richards, exchanged views with the head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Cristy Koventry, the online newspaper JIT reported.

According to the report, Richards congratulated Koventry on behalf of the Cuban Olympic Movement, especially its athletes, coaches, and officials, on her status as the first woman in such a high position, following a successful career as a multi-Olympic medalist swimmer from an African country (Zimbabwe), a friend of the Caribbean island.

The national leader presented her with a Batos sports uniform, produced by the Cuban Sports Industry, labeled with her name and position, the Olympic Committee crest, and the national flag.

As part of his working visit to Lausanne, Richards and the Secretary General of the Cuban Olympic Committee, Ruperto Herrera, spoke with officials from several IOC Olympic Solidarity Directorates, including finance, marketing, legal, and intellectual property.

At the offices of the Association of National Olympic Committees, representatives of the island’s sports sector met with the Director of Events and Projects, Emilie Robert.

The parties discussed the Safe Sport Commissions and the possibility of holding the Beach Games in Varadero, as well as meetings of the 206 national Olympic committees.

They also spoke with the President of the International Volleyball Federation, Fabio Azevedo, and its Executive Committee, which includes three-time Cuban Olympic champion Mireya Luis as one of its vice presidents.

According to the press report, a representative of the IOC’s Olympic Solidarity team spoke at the meeting to promote the institution’s support for restoring Cuba’s historic results in the sport.
