The president of the National Assembly, Esteban Lazo Hernández, highlighted in Guantanamo the importance of popular control, integrated community work and monitoring the population’s proposals.
The meeting with delegates and presidents of the Popular Councils and the Permanent Work Commissions of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power in Guantánamo is part of the parliamentary visit that was carried out in the province since Thursday.
During the day he emphasized the role of the constituency delegate, as a representative of the community and that he must maintain a real, permanent and systematic link with his voters.
Prior to that meeting, Lazo arrived at the University of Guantanamo where he learned about the community projects that are generated there.
Accompanied by Governor Alis Azahares Torreblanca and the member of the Provincial Bureau of the Party, Zenia Lores Méndez, the leader reflected on the role of these institutions in the socioeconomic development of the territory and emphasized the use of local potential to seek solutions to the problems, despite the current limitations of the Cuban economy, difficulties increased with the intensification of the US blockade on the Island.
The president of the Cuban Parliament pointed out “the importance of the formation of values in young people where the school-family-community bond plays a decisive role in the comprehensive formation of boys and girls.”
He also highlighted the importance of the political process that is taking place in the country, with the approval of new and complex measures, to correct distortions and re-boost the economy.
Units dedicated to food production such as the Pescaguan Fishing Enterprise, the Guantánamo Brewery Subsidiary, the “La María Elena” various crops farm, located in Carreterita, were also part of the tour of the president of the National Assembly where he spoke with the workers.
Directors of eight permanent work commissions of the National Assembly make up the parliamentary visit to the province and it is characterized by the exchange of the deputies with the population, delegates and other authorities of the Assembly of People’s Power, on the impact of the policies approved by the country to attention to the economy, services and social programs.
They will also check the agreements adopted by the supreme body of State Power related to the Economy Plan and the State Budget for 2024, and the directives aimed at preventing and confronting crime, corruption, illegalities and social indiscipline, among other topics of interest.
In turn, they verified the organization and development of the political process to correct distortions and re-boost the economy this year, in the local government system.
