Guantánamo – The president of the Provincial Defense Council of Guantánamo, Yoel Pérez García, toured this Thursday agricultural areas of the coastal municipality of San Antonio del Sur, one of the most affected territories after the passage of Hurricane Oscar through the Cuban high east.
At the 17 mayo Agricultural Production Cooperative of the Guaibanó settlement, located in the Caujerí Valley, the largest agricultural center in Guantánamo, Pérez García was informed that of the 2,000 hectares in operation, about 500 hectares of tubers, vegetables and grains were affected.
In this regard, he was interested in the emergency recovery plan for 932 hectares that will be planted in November and December, of which 190 planting areas destined to sweet potatoes harvest, 50 of corn, 43 of pumpkins, more than 400 of tomatoes, and 190 of beans. The territory aims to achieve independence from the national supply to produce enough of these crops to be self-sufficient
Likewise, the farmers work quickly on tomato reproduction in the 19 net houses, where the seedbed for social consumption and processing in industries is guaranteed.
Pérez García continues to check the affected areas in agriculture after the passage of Hurricane Oscar, which also damaged housing and state institutions, which are being recovered with the help and solidarity of the ten municipalities and several provinces of the country.
