Cuban Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, presides over the Government’s working visit to Guantanamo that began in Baracoa, where he participated in its Municipal Administration Council (CAM), a moment to also verify the fulfillment of agreements from previous meetings, theindications to deal with the current energy contingency in the face of the fuel deficit and the progress of the banking process.
Accompanied by the highest political and government authorities of the province, ministers, directors of institutes and vice ministers, Marrero Cruz also checked the actions for the implementation of the economic and social development strategy in Baracoa and its impact on the progressive economic sustainability of the territory and increasing the inhabitants´ quality of life.
At the meeting, the Cuban Prime Minister insisted on giving priority to food production with the fulfillment of the cold sowing campaign and the local production of construction materials and fulfillment of the housing program, very sensitive issues and of high concern.
When addressing the issue of food sovereignty and food production, Marrero Cruz called for “compliance with the cold sowing campaign and being clear with the numbers, keeping what is produced and marketed and being able to truly know what is demanded for the feeding of the population.”
In Baracoa he also visited the state coconut nursery of Playa Duaba, a center pertaining to the agroforestry and coconut enterprise, the second hub export in Guantanamo.
He was also interested in the workers’ payment system and their working conditions, and learned about the planting of 55 thousand coconut plants to date and the commitment to complete 100 thousand in the year, as part of the development program of this fruit.
