With the provision of resources, training and support for coffee and cocoa production fundamentally, the Prodecafe Agroforestry Development Project benefits 140 cooperatives in the Guantanamo Province, which belong to 8 of the 10 municipalities.

More than 2 thousand tool modules, 9 tractors and 258 chainsaws are means provided by this project, sponsored by the United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development, to improve the working conditions of rural families, which increases the yields of cocoa and coffee mainly.

Rafael Pichardo, coordinator of Prodecaf’e in the territory, reported that training is also offered on topics of agrotechnics, plantation management, gender equality, among others, in favor of the development of capacities in the associates and managers of the productive forms.

Likewise, this project, which is being carried out in Guantanamo and three other provinces in Eastern Cuba, donated climate, office and furniture equipment to agroforestry agricultural companies in this territory to benefit the management centers, he pointed out.

With the financing currently being executed by Prodecafe in Guantanamo, irrigation systems, technical nurseries, organic matter production centers and grafting are also guaranteed to contribute to the sustainable development of the agroforestry sector and the quality of life of producers and their families.
