Guantánamo – Yoel Pérez García, president of the Provincial Defense Council (CDP) in Guantánamo, congratulated the people of the Cuban Upper East for maintaining the traditional fighting spirit and active participation in the intense tasks of recovery from the damage caused by the passage of Hurricane Oscar, while thanking the support and messages of solidarity with its inhabitants from various places in Cuba and the world.
The top political leader in the eastern province also recognized the impetus shown by the residents of Baracoa, San Antonio del Sur, Maisí and Imías, who faced the challenges of repairing the damage caused by the meteor despite the initial isolation due to heavy rains, which caused flooding that destroyed thousands of homes and washed away bridges and culverts on the roads, especially on the south coast.
He also decided to maintain for an indefinite period the broadcast of the radio news program En Frecuencia con el Pueblo, every Saturday at 1:30 pm, to provide information to listeners about the progress of the recovery tasks in the municipalities affected by the devastating meteor.
He also announced that the program for next Saturday, November 16, will address the negative impact of the hydrometeorological phenomenon on Guantanamo agriculture, while he reported that the Agricultural Fairs will continue in the eastern territory.
Pérez García praised the unity and the exceptional role played by local media workers in providing timely information about the natural disaster on a daily basis, and asked the people of Guantanamo to join their effort in this time of hurricane, recovery and solidarity.
He also congratulated the Ministry of the Interior and the Revolutionary Armed Forces for their decisive contribution in the rescue and saving of human lives during the first impacts of Oscar in the affected municipalities, and he especially congratulated the combatants of the Border Brigade, Order Antonio Maceo, an armed institution that has been in charge of guarding the perimeter with the illegal American naval base in Guantanamo Bay for 63 years.
The President of the CDP thanked friends from around the world, the people of all Cuba, especially those of the eastern provinces, for the extensive displays of affection and solidarity in very difficult times that inspire, lift up and allow us to continue working to build a better Guantánamo that is built under the slogan Together We Can Do More to show that Yes, we can.
During the radio broadcast, conducted by the renowned journalist Martha Reyes Noa, Perez García was accompanied by Alis Azaharez Torreblanca, vice president of the CDP, and political leaders, from the provincial government and directors of various sectors, including Education, Culture, Construction, Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) and Domestic Trade.
