The series of articles, ” Duelo de exterminio y resurrección en el Este,” (Sorrow For Extermination and Resurrection of the EAST) by José Llanos Camejo, correspondent for the Granma newspaper in Guantánamo, won the provincial economic journalism award, sponsored by the National Association of Economists and Accountants (ANEC) in the Cuban Upper East.

The jury, composed of doctors Manuel García Cuscó, Félix Martínez Díaz, and journalist Jorge Luis Merencio Cautín, recognized the scientific and investigative value of the series of reports, which addressed the devastation caused by Hurricane Oscar on the municipalities of eastern Guantanamo, and the efforts of farmers, specialists, and authorities to repair the damage to the plantations, coastal areas, and the soil.

The works, which will represent the region in the National Award, demonstrate resilience in the face of the damage caused by the meteorological phenomenon, the actions taken by the agricultural sector to re-emerge amidst the devastation, and include contributions from renowned environmental experts.

Likewise, mentions were given to Yuliet Nguyen Pérez, of Radio Bahía Station in Caimanera, and to journalists Isacc García Cárdenas, of Telecentro Solvisión, and Melissa Vargas along with Mayliovys Del Toro, of Venceremos Newspaper.

Each year, ANEC calls for nominations for the Annual Economic Journalism Award in the print, digital, radio, and television categories on topics related to the economy, new regulations, the transformation of Cuban business, the management of economic actors, steps toward decentralization, and the results of work in municipalities and neighborhoods.
