Guantanamo.- The ongoing need to increase local production in the territory in the current context of crisis, marked by a negative balance of the national economy that impacts the provision of services to the people, was the focus of the debate at the recent plenary session of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in Guantánamo.
Yoel Pérez García, First Secretary of the Party in the Cuban Upper East, who chaired the meeting, noted that the territory must increase its income plan in all possible areas, especially in those exportable products that attract foreign currency for the import of products, such as milk for children and fuel for electricity generation.
In this regard, he highlighted the work being done to expand production areas in Niceto Pérez, Guantánamo, Caimanera, and Maisí, to grow more food and continue contributing to municipal self-sufficiency.
The provincial plenary also evaluated other issues such as the financial situation of the Commerce sector and its challenges as a socialist state-owned enterprise. In this regard, the difficulties highlighted included the continued existence of outstanding accounts payable in Manuel Tames, Yateras, and Guantánamo facilities, while some twenty primary care units are reporting losses.
