Guantánamo,. The award ceremony of the Espacio Awards of the Cuban Association of Social Communicators (ACCS) in Guantánamo was the climax of the Second Provincial Communication Festival, in which the role of this social science as one of the pillars of government management in Cuba was discussed.
Rolando Durand Rill, Lourdes Maritza Cordoví Lowell (in 2024), and Mauricio Bartolomé Reytor Rodríguez (in 2025) were honored with the ACCS “Espacio” Lifetime Achievement Awards for their extensive careers, teachings, and practical contributions to train social communication professionals in the province, as well as for their work in multiplying the vertical role of this scientific discipline in the development of Guantanamo society.
At the meeting, chaired by Lídice Fragas, head of the ideological department of the provincial Party committee, and Matilde Márquez, president of the ACCS in Guantánamo, Guantanamo professionals and cultural and communication projects were also honored with provincial awards for the work of the year in various categories, and membership cards were presented to new members of the organization.
The Festival focused on the conference “Community Communication: Tools” and panels on the active role of the public in managing communication processes, the responsible use of information and communication technologies in the exchange of ideas, opinions, meanings, and significance for the benefit of the community and its interests, and the attention and analysis of public proposals regarding local development projects and the encouragement of their participation in their conception, implementation, and evaluation.
These topics were widely discussed due to the importance of proper implementation and the necessary understanding of the Communications Law, and its consensual role in building the Cuban social project.
