Guantanamo.- As part of the National Radio Festival, based in Camagüey, the delegates visited the Cándido González Morales Credit and Services Cooperative (CCS), which is managed by Osmara Fidalgo Porata, who has led this organization for 11 years. It is comprised of 132 members, 34 of whom are women.
The CCS cultivates approximately 68 hectares of fruit trees, distributed for tourism and to supply educational and healthcare institutions, thus contributing to local development and food security in its territory.
During the tour of this advanced production institution, we spoke with Camagüey-born producer Luis Miguel Carrió Verde, from the “La Fortuna” Farm, located on the Northern Beltway of Camagüey.
He stated with firm conviction, “Fortune is to work and produce,” a motto that reflects the hardworking spirit of Cuban farmers and their commitment to agriculture.
Also part of the National Radio Festival program, Radio, the delegation visited the Isabelita farm, of the 54-year-old entrepreneur Javier Hidalgo Caballero.
An example of resilience and love for the land, Hidalgo left behind his degree in physical education and a master’s degree in criminal law to dedicate himself fully to agriculture seven years ago.
Amidst marabou and weeds, he turned 7 hectares into productive land, with plantain cultivation as the centerpiece.
His story, which combines academic training, tenacity, and a radical shift toward farming, captured the attention of broadcasters and journalists, who documented his testimony as part of the festival’s inspiring experiences.
