September 25 marks the International Day of Retinitis Pigmentosa, a degenerative and hereditary disease that leads patients to progressive loss of vision, hence the importance of early diagnosis and compliance with therapies to retain its progress, as much as possible.
With this motivation, the group of the Provincial Center for Retinitis Pigmentosa, of Guantanamo, works, a center that is located on Narciso López Street between Máximo Gómez and Luz Caballero of this city, an annex service of the Doctor Agosthino Neto General Teaching Hospital.
The only one of its kind in this eastern territory of Cuba, the center has highly qualified personnel who carry out investigations, mainly on people with a family history of Retinitis Pigmentosa and other retinal dystrophies, in addition to offering treatments with ozone therapy and vitamins.
Patients admitted to this institution also receive well-balanced diet, as far as possible, with the requirements of their illness, and feel welcomed by the affection, sensitivity and good treatment that the workers provide them in a welcoming environment, in favor of their quality of life.
