Guantanamo.- A room dedicated to the outstanding reporter Pablo Soroa Fernández, who died on July 13 at the age of 78, was inaugurated at the headquarters of Cuban Journalists Association (Upec) in Guantánamo, in memory of the first journalism school graduate that the province had after the triumph of the Revolution.

Taimí Fernández Pérez, president of the Upec in the easternmost territory, explained that the idea arose from ​​gathering in this space the great volume of bibliographic material belonging to Soroa, who was an excellent professional, teacher, with a keen intelligence and vast culture.

The room will keep Soroa’s journalism books, Cuban and universal history materials, art, poetry, literature, politics, theater, specialized magazines, unpublished photos of his work, notebooks, among other publications that nourished his work in more than half a century of fruitful career. All these materials remain for reference in the Guantanamo and Cuban press and for current and future generations.

A representation of colleagues from all media attended the tribute that this room pays to the person who was awarded with the Provincial Journalism Award for Lifetime Achievement José Vázquez Savón, in 2010, the second to receive it; La Fama, symbol of the Guantánamo City; the 145th anniversary Plaque of the city and the 50th and 60th anniversary Medal of the Upec, among many other awards.
