Russian kitesurfers arrived this Tuesday at Caribe Beach, in Baracoa, as the final stage to set a new Guinness Record for the practice of this sport on a journey between the Bahamas Islands and Cuba.

The record was set in 6 and half hours, at a speed of 60 miles per hour, and safety for the journey was provided by  an escort boat equipped with professional support and technical staff.

At the reception site, a simple sports-cultural activity took place with the presence of tourism executives in the Guantanamo Province and the sports sector in the municipality.

Kitesurfing harnesses the power of the wind through a large parachute type kite to propel a rider across the water on a small surfboard or a kiteboard

The kitesurfing class has recently been included among the sailing modalities and will make its debut in the Olympic program in Paris 2024, another incentive for its practitioners.
