Guantanamo.- In the twenty-two health areas of Guantánamo Province, the conditions are being created for the second phase of the 64th Bivalent Oral Polio Vaccination Campaign, to be held from June 16th to 21st.
Dr. María Elena Sánchez García, head of the province’s Vaccination Program, stated that medical and nursing staff are reviewing statistics to ensure that the approximately 15,000 children under one month old to three years old receive the second dose, while 9-year-olds will be given a booster or booster dose.
She emphasized that the most important thing is to go to the sites designated to receive the immunogen and thus prevent polio, an infectious disease that affects the central nervous system, primarily in children, and can cause muscle atrophy, paralysis, deformity, and, in some cases, death.
During the first stage of polio vaccination, no serious adverse reactions were reported in the territory last April, a result that is expected in the second stage from June 16 to 21, with recovery from June 24 to 28, since it is a fairly harmless product.
The polio vaccine is not administered to children with diarrhea, vomiting, or fever; similarly, children with chronic illnesses must be compensated.
