Guantanamo – With the development of the Second Conference of the Culture Workers Union in Guantanamo, this process began in the country at the provincial level. The meeting that took place in the Plaza Mariana Grajales of this eastern city, was chaired by Katia Rodríguez Ramos, National Secretary of this organization and by the Vice Minister of Culture of Cuba, Lizette Martínez Luzardo.
The 50 Guantanamo delegates to this second provincial conference, representing the more than 5,000 members of this union in the territory, analyzed over the five-year assessment period and they referred to the relevance of strengthening the link between the organization’s grass-root structures, as well as the fulfillment of union indicators from each of the union’s work groups.
During this Second Provincial Conference of Cultural Workers, the debates centered on the union’s affiliation, the accompaniment of membership, and the promotion of professional training for union leaders and their executives.
The implementation of new payment gateways in order to facilitate compliance with union fees, were other issues discussed, in which the delegates also identified communication as an essential element in their work guidelines.
Katia Rodríguez Ramos, National Secretary of this organization, offered statements about this union process.
As part of this meeting, and after an election process, the Provincial Bureau of the Union of Cultural Workers in Guantánamo was renewed, now led by Dayanis Reyes Delgado as General Secretary, and also made up by Adriana Rojas Preval, Sisnay Fay Vargas, Vilmaris Duvergel Torres, Yoandra Simón Duvergel, Marisenia Durán Lores and Alexis Aguilera Lara.
The culmination of the meeting was the presentation of the Raúl Gómez García Medal, the highest decoration conferred by this organization in the country, to five Guantanamo workers in recognition of their labor throughout 25 years in the sector, as well as the moment of recognition by several institutions of the territory to Yohannie Mendoza Sagó, who completed her performance as General Secretary of the Union of Culture in the province.
