Guantánamo – In the municipality of Manuel Tames, the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa continues to affect coffee plantations, which were in the midst of harvesting one of the territory’s main export crops. The current harvest was expected to yield an estimated 8,000 cans of Arabica coffee and 25,000 cans of Robusta coffee.

Adan Cortina reports on recovery efforts in the La Tagua and Santa Catalina communities, the largest coffee-producing areas in Manuel Tames. The losses are considerable, and work is now underway to harvest an additional 5,000 cans of Arabica coffee and 15,000 cans of Robusta coffee.
