A Solidarity group from Antigua and Barbuda, led by His Excellency Maurice George Goodwin, ambassador of that sister Caribbean nation in Cuba, visits the Guantanamo Province from Monday, July 10, and until next July 15.

The group, made up of 19 friends, is supported by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) and its purpose is to strengthen ties between Antigua and Barbuda, and the easternmost region of the country and, according to Mr. George Goodwin, ” to continue supporting Cuba in the demand for the end of the criminal Yankee blockade and for removing the island from the unfair list of countries that sponsor terrorism,” he said.

Upon arrival in Guantanamo, the delegation was received at the headquarters of the Provincial Government of People’s Power, where Alejandro Louit Correa, an official in charge of international relations for this body, provided the visitors with information on the main socio-economic, historical and cultural of the territory.

The ambassador of Antigua and Barbuda expressed his satisfaction for being in the land that inspired the international song “La Guantanamera” and being able to visit the Baracoa City, birthplace of the Olympic champion María Caridad Colón, whom he has known since he was a student in Cuba.

In the province, the solidarity group will visit areas of the Alejandro von Humboldt National Park, declared a World Heritage Site and the largest reserve of biodiversity in the insular Caribbean, as well as educational, public health and cultural centers in Baracoa, along with other sites of historical and tourist interest, as well as the municipality Caimanera, bordering territory with the illegal US naval base in Guantanamo Bay.

Antigua and Barbuda is an independent country of the Commonwealth of English-speaking Nations with more than 28 years of diplomatic relations with Havana and more than two decades of presence of Cuban collaborators in health and other sectors.
