Guantánamo – Members of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, along with the Colombian Navy, arrived in the Costa Rica town in the Guantánamo municipality of El Salvador to deliver a donation to ten people affected by Hurricane Melissa in eastern Cuba.
Javier Carbonell, a member of the delegation, told the CMKS Radio Station that they are in Cuba on the orders of Colombian President Gustavo Petro, who decided to prepare a 240-ton humanitarian aid package containing food, hygiene supplies, drinking water, and fuel for the communities most affected by weather event.
Those who received the food and hygiene kits were very grateful of thanks for the Colombian people. Each delivery was accompanied by tears, hugs, and hope. Yurisleydis Mustelier Willian, a mother of three, said she couldn’t find words to express her joy. Similarly, Yadira Grandales López and Imandra Colas Barzaga also expressed their appreciation to the President of Colombia and the Cuban Revolution.
