Guantanamo.- The Cuban Electric Union reported in X that the strong winds of Hurricane Rafael, of great intensity, have caused the disconnection of the National Electric System. Contingency protocols have been activated.

In the last hours, Rafael gained hurricane status and became a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, being the fifth hurricane of great intensity in this hurricane season.

Rafael’s current location is 22.0°N and 82.3°W, approximately 135 kilometers south of Havana, Cuba, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) .

It had maximum sustained winds of 115 mph (185 kph) and was moving northwest at 14 mph (22 kph), with a minimum central pressure of 956 hPa.
