Guantanamo.- The provincial celebration of Sugar Worker Day in Guantánamo was held at the Argeo Martínez sugar mill, where Manuel Antonio Álvarez Ramos received a certificate of recognition for his distinguished career.

This honor acknowledges his over fifty years of dedication in sugar production, particularly in light of the challenges posed by the intensified blockade against Cuba and the decline in global market prices.

The event also saw the presentation of the Jesús Suárez Gayol Distinction to a group of workers with more than 20 years of experience in the agro-industrial and sugar sectors.

These dedicated workers have consistently delivered productive outputs in sugar and its derivatives, contributing significantly to the national economy despite facing serious material and financial challenges.

During the ceremony, participants reaffirmed their commitment to addressing urgent tasks, such as preparing sugarcane fields and repairing the mill. Additionally, all agricultural and industrial teams were encouraged to critically assess the previous season’s shortcomings to avoid repeating past mistakes.

Sugar Worker Day, celebrated annually on October 13th, commemorates the nationalization of 195 sugar mills by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
