Traditional Haitian singing, playing and dance classes were part of the summer workshop promoted by the Lakou Lwa sociocultural project in Guantanamo, where fourth and fifth grade students of the Elmo Catalán Avilés Elementary School learned about the Kreyol or Creole (Creole) language, and about the history and culture of this Antillean country.

Accompanied by specialists of the Training Provincial Center for Culture, the bearer leader Francisco Díaz and the management group of his project shared expressions of greetings, phrases and words from Kreyól, besides reading the book  “Retrato de un  latifundio”, by Orlando Michel Marrero, an author from Camagüey who narrates anecdotes about the insecure life of Haitian immigrants on Cuban soil during past times of exploitation and social injustice.

In the workshop, children also learned ballroom dancing with the renowned professor Wilberto Félix Díaz, from the professional dance school, and the techniques of papier maché and origami, taught by the plastic artists Eliardo del Toro Brinez and Ángel Villalón, respectively.

The Lakou Lwa project was inserted into the recreational activities and healthy recreation programmed by the community in the summer season, in which the traditions inherited from the legitimate Haitian children are cultivated and defended.
