The 2023 summertime officially begins in Guantanamo, with recreational activities throughout the territory, which will have their main venue in the Pedro Agustín Pérez Polyfunctional Plaza, where a giant sports, recreational and cultural festival will take place.
“El verano con amor” (Summer with love), as this time is called, will have the neighborhoods and communities of all the municipalities of the province as its main setting, with several cultural and sports activities for the people´s enjoyment, where cultural traditions, link with nature, attention to rural areas and vulnerable communities and the second ring will be reinforced.
Important dates will be celebrated in July, such as the Children’s Day, on the third Sunday of the month and on the 25th, 26th and 27th, activities for the National Rebellion Day will be held. In August, the International Youth Day, on the 12th, will be celebrated. It also includes the 97th birth anniversary of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, on the 13th, the Fiesta de las Aguas Festival for the 512th anniversary of Baracoa; from the 16th to the 19th San Joaquín Festival will take place, and on the 23rd, the founding day of the Cuban Women Federation.
In the sports sector, 699 recreational spaces and 61 bathing areas (three swimming pools, 17 beaches and 41 rivers) will be activated.
Sports programs, the activation of Por una vida más sana provincial project (For a healthier life project), and the actions that the teachers of physical education will have in the different communities.
In the case of Culture, casino, son and changüí summer workshops will be offered, bastions of our identity, and club and associations encounters.
Tours to communities in vulnerable conditions and those of the Turquino Plan, art exhibitions, book presentations, poetry recitals, summer workshops in the Houses of Culture, festivals of amateur artists and dance shows in squares and open spaces will also be made.
The Computer Community Clubs will offer technology fairs and tournaments and the television halls will have a program for the summertime, while Education sector will offer 21 summer courses and facilities for recreational purposes will be available.
In addition, restaurant services will be provided according to the resources available, providing support to sports and cultural activities.
Traditional festivals will be held in all municipalities, which have the presentation and sale of typical dishes and cocktail.
