Guantanamo.- The provincial edition of the 34th Guantánamo Book Fair concluded with a ceremony held in the Aretusa Hall at the headquarters of the Cuban Writers and Artists Association (UNEAC).
During the event, the Provincial Center for Books and Literature paid tribute to Alejandro Hartman Matos, Historian of the City of Baracoa, to whom this year’s fair was dedicated.
Representatives of the Guantánamo branches of the Cuban Historians Association and the José Martí Cultural Society, along with the Provincial Council of Scientific Societies of Health, also attended the ceremony. The council presented Hartman Matos—recipient of the National Cultural Heritage Lifetime Achievement Award—with a special distinction. The award was presented by Dr. Anselma Betancourt Pulsán, Hero of Labor of the Republic of Cuba.
The closing ceremony featured musical performances by the Guantánamo Guitar Orchestra, Russian folktale narrations by actor Ury Rodríguez Urgellés, and choreographic presentations by students from the Alfredo Velázquez Carcasés Professional Dance School.
Liset Pérez Rosario, member of the Provincial Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba in Guantánamo; Yoelvys Labañino López, head of the provincial culture sector; and Yuliet Heredia Suárez, director of the Provincial Center for Books and Literature, presided over the ceremony.
The event was also attended by the authors, artists, booksellers, historians, and literary promoters who participated in the 34th edition of the Book Fair, held across the province from September 4 to 6.
