The 45th Provincial Baseball Series began last weekend in Guantanamo with 11 teams competing for the title.
On the first competitive date, the teams of the Western Zone played and the favorite teams of Manuel Tames and El Salvador came out much better than their opponents by scoring two wins against Juveniles and Niceto Pérez, respectively.
Tames, directed by the young former national Ricardo Preval, won the 2 games against the youth teams with scores of 9×3 and 1×0.
Eudis Matos and Luis Angel Mejías Machirán won while Damián Bello and Cristian Labrada lost.
El Salvador team relied on national throwers Joel Tejeda and Javier Iglesias for their victories over Niceto Pérez in 6×3 and 10×3, games where Michel Mengana and Oswar Castro suffered failure, despite the fact that theirThird baseman Alexis Laborde Jr hit a home run in the opening game.
The current champion, Yateras, did not play in its first match against Caimanera and the Guantanamo Braves rested on the first day.
The East Zone begins next Wednesday with the Imías-San Antonio del Sur games at the Amado Romero stadium in Imías, and Maisí vs Baracoa at the Pedro Eladio Sánchez Laffita in Gran Tierra.
The SPB is the event most followed by fans from the 10 municipalities and the most important grassroots high performance competition of in Guantanamo.
