Guantanamo.- The presentation of the book “The Two Reginos,” by Guantánamo author Marino Wilson Jay, published in 2023 by Ediciones Santiago, was the highlight of the “Sábado del Libro gathering, the closing ceremony of the 48th Regino Eladio Boti Literature and Visual Arts Contest.
The event was held at its usual location in the central José Martí Park of this eastern city.
Writer and guest of the Boti Festival, Roberto Carlos Fournier, deputy director of Editorial Oriente, presented this book by the late writer and intellectual Marino Wilson Jay during the event, which was hosted by author Yess Ramírez.
The book is an essay that celebrates the legacy of two leading figures in Cuban poetry: the Guantánamo poet Regino Eladio Boti and the Matanzas poet Regino Pedroso.
Meanwhile, Karla Gil, head of the Literature section of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) in Guantánamo, presented the chapbook “Huellas” (Footprints), a random selection of works by authors who, over the four decades of this cultural organization’s existence, have witnessed its growth and are remembered by members who are now over 35 years old.
The event, enlivened by choreographic performances from the Danza Fragmentada Company and musical interpretations by the Provincial Concert Band, was attended by authors, editors, booksellers, and literary promoters from the region, members of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS), and Yuliet Heredia Suárez, director of the Provincial Book Center, in Guantánamo Province.
Another significant moment during the 48th Regino E. Boti Literature and Visual Arts Festival was the opening of the exhibition “A Rebel Man” at the Anto Morales Gallery. The exhibition, by Nelson Domínguez, winner of the 2009 National Visual Arts Prize, was a tribute to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
The 48th edition of the Literature and Visual Arts Contest took place in Guantánamo from June 17 to 20.
The cultural program included discussions, lectures, outreach to educational institutions and workplaces, and tributes to local artists, such as Mayelín Mansfarrol, to whom the event was dedicated in honor of her 25 years outstanding career.
