The 33rd edition of the International Book Fair will take place in Guantánamo from March 20th to the 23rd, which is amid a varied literary and artistic program that pays tribute to the 130th anniversary of José Martí’s death in combat and the 25th anniversary of the Editorial House El Mar y la Montaña.
It also celebrates the 70th anniversary of Guantánamo writer and editor Mireya Piñeiro, a leading figure in literature in the province. The program will also highlight the work of local artists Wilfredo Robas Castañeda, Ángel Ramírez Goliat, and Jennifer Salmón Mondeja, among others.
The literary event is also dedicated to Francisca López Civeira, National Prize winner in History (2008) and in Social Sciences (2022), and to Virgilio López Lemus, poet, essayist, and literary critic, who are invited to this year’s edition.
The Republic of South Africa will be present as a guest country, with a poetry recital during the opening gala held at the Zona de Arte Cultural Center. The program includes also a broadcasts on the Hermanos Saíz Association’s radio station that will address the culture of the African country, and the book presentation of Africa in Memory by writer Heriberto Feraudy.
As part of the Fair’s program, the magazine La Gaveta will be presented. One of its most recent editions features five artists from Guantánamo: writer Wilfredo Robas, journalists Ángel Ramírez and Dayana Mesa, and visual artists Ángel Terrero and Geny Jarrosay.
Conferences will be held on the role of women in literature and literary promotion. Poetry recordings will be screened and audiovisual materials will be discussed.
