Guantánamo.- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez affirmed that the BRICS represent hope, speaking during the panel “Strengthening Multilateralism, Economic-Financial Affairs, and Intelligence,” at the event taking place in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.
In assessing the current international scenario, he mentioned the growing belligerence of state governments that violate all the principles of the United Nations Charter, acting with absolute disregard for world peace, and in their actions before international organizations and forums.
The Cuban leader considered the current war scenario, with the Israeli attacks on Iran and the ongoing Zionist genocide against the Palestinian people, unacceptable. In his speech at the panel featuring the BRICS partner countries, he said that this group represents hope for advancing cooperation, solidarity, and integration.
Diaz-Canel also referred to the need to reduce asymmetries in the use of resources, artificial intelligence, the promotion of greater democratization of science and technology, and respect for human rights throughout the world, in a very complex international scenario.
The Cuban president reiterated his denunciation of the genocidal US blockade against our country, which is intensifying, violating all norms of international law.
Finally, President Miguel Díaz-Canel addressed the challenges facing the BRICS and reiterated his gratitude for Cuba’s approval as a partner country.
“A sustained commitment to multilateralism is urgently needed to guarantee peaceful coexistence and sustain sustainable and equitable development for all peoples. Therefore, it is urgent to nourish and strengthen the BRICS, to which we are honored to belong, to contribute and learn. Cuba can always be counted on in this endeavor.”
During the day on Sunday, President Miguel Díaz-Canel held two bilateral meetings — one with Indian Prime Minister Nadendra Modi and the other with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Mihn Chinh, to whom he reiterated the special moment in relations between the two countries.
On Monday, the third panel of the BRICS Summit is taking place, themed: “Environment, COP30, and Global Health.”
The announcement of the leaders’ framework declaration on financing the BRICS Alliance for the elimination of socially-related diseases is also expected.
