Guantánamo.- The Mueblería Dujo Local Development Project is advancing with a notable socio-economic impact, one of the 30 that operate in the Guantánamo Municipality and inaugurated on May 1, 2024.

The investment of the project, of just over 18 million pesos, was financed mainly by the Cuban Furniture Industry, the Muebles Imperio Enterprise and eight million pesos from the Banco de Crédito y Comercio’s loan.

With seven workers of staff, the store, the only one of its kind in the country, sells furniture of all kinds and takes advantage of endogenous resources from the territory such as wood, varnish and others, said Rafael Duvergel Bueno, the head of the project.

He specified that they are also intended to provide service to the population for assembly, furniture repair, transportation and other services and also market products from entities of the Ministry of Industry and the Business Group of Light Industry, GEMPIL, of the territory or the nation.

“We have other suppliers from companies or the Basic Business Units of the Cuban furniture industry such as Ludema, Lunasur, Acorde, Malesa, SIGNO and Lides,” Duvergel Bueno said.

He indicated that the future purpose is the development of a second stage of the project in which they can include clean energy for its development with photovoltaic panels and the participation of international cooperation.

Regarding the economic results, Alexei Diéguez Pérez, the commercial agent of the project, mentioned the contribution of 18 million pesos at the end of 2024, evidence of the impact it has had on the population.

The quality of the offers and affordable prices distinguish our products. The marketing of shoe racks, at two thousand 100 pesos; shelves; bag hangers, in a range of between 90 and 120 pesos, depending on the size; drawers, closets, stand out. The mirrors has achieved wide acceptance by the population, they are always sold out and people continue looking for them, he explained.

The influx of people is daily and continuous to the store, which operates from Monday to Friday, from nine in the morning to five in the afternoon and on Saturdays at noon, with the exclusive use of the payment gateways.

He pointed out that they have some problems with the paint to give the best surface finish on the furniture, for reasons such as the impact of the blockade that makes it difficult. However, they try to produce better finish, likewise they have great acceptance since they work with quality standards

Regla Martínez Echevarría, director of territorial development in the municipality of Guantánamo, said that Mueblería Dujo is one of the projects that was not financed by the Government, but is being developed in the demarcation of the main territory, for which it receives support from the Administration Council with fuel for the transport of merchandise, it was authorized for a commercial license for retail sales and it is already leaving a very important social mark.
