The team from Granma province won the National Parachuting Championship, coinciding this year with the 13 de Agosto Air Sports Cup, held in the city of Baracoa and dedicated to the  Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz´s 98th birth anniverssary.

In the men’s category, Luis Mario Araújo from Granma won gold with a precision of 0.04 cm, followed by Raúl Borges (FAR), 0.07 cm and Michel Pérez from Matanzas with 0.08 cm.

In the women’s category – there were only two participants – Marisol Maldonado from Holguín was first with 0.24 cm, beating Dalia Begerano from Ciego de Ávila with 0.25 cm.

they are part of a select group that holds the Latin American record for group precision jumping, achieved more than a decade ago in the issue held in Paseo Fundo, Brazil, on May 31, 2013.

“The successful tournament highlighted the skill and precision of participants, reaffirming the commitment to the development of aerial sports in Cuba,” That was said by Eutimio Pérez Barrera, president of the Cuban Parachuting Federation, who highlighted the importance of improving the precision of the jumps and thus the results obtained in the competitions, achieving the exchange of experiences, strengthening the relations of friendship between national and foreign participants, judges and support staff.

This time, the 13 de Agosto Cup was dedicated to Professor Juan Barrientos Columbié, a prominent parachuting professor who created the 13 de Agosto Air Sports Cup honoring the legacy of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.

The city of Baracoa will once again welcome parachutists in the next issue of the National Championship of this modality, a day that in 2025 will be dedicated to two stars from Baracoa: María Caridad Colón, today a member of the International Olympic Committee, and Eugenio George, the best volleyball coach in the world of the 20th century.
