Guantánamo – The Port of Boquerón, located in Guantanamo Bay, maintained its operations during the month of August, despite the material limitations that affect this economic activity, as a result of the intensification of the commercial and financial blockade of the US Government against Cuba.
In its warehouses, the transfer of considerable volumes of salt transported by boxes is constant, the main operation carried out by port workers in recent times, knowing that their contribution is essential for the economy of the Caimanera municipality.
After promptly operating a barge with rice for the distribution of the standard family food basket in the first half of August, they prepared to load it with salt; both processes were carried out in the shortest time without delays.
From August 19 to 30, the workers loaded salt, the emblematic product of the territory, after the ASELA ship once again enters port with its mission of transporting more than 2,500 tons of salt to western Cuba, an action that fulfills the state’s mandate to supply 65 percent of the population through the regulated distribution of the demanded additive.
