Guantanamo.- The Soil Institute that has gained the position as local leader in studies on Cartography, Classification and Agro-productive Evaluation of lands in Guantánamo Province, stands out for its scientific work  aimed at counteract the causes of desertification and drought in this province severely affected by climate change.

With more than 35 years of work in the lines of research on soils and transmitting its experiences to companies and associations in the evaluation of lands and the selection of areas for crops, it offers a portfolio of scientific-technical services to entities focused on preserving this natural resource to promote Cuban economic development.

Laboratory analysis of soil, plants and water; Agro-productive evaluation of lands; Preparation of recommendations for the most rational use of soils; and Determination of limiting factors, are some of the services provided by this scientific center.

The Soil Institute, in Guantanamo Province, also provides services on the scheme of crop rotation; Determination of soil fertility and recommendations for the application of chemical and organic fertilizers; in addition to the Study of soil salinity; Crop management in salt-affected lands, as well as the design of conservation and soil improvement schemes and advice for their implementation.
