The Cuban Workers’ Federation (CTC) in Guantánamo continues to support the sugarcane planting during the current cold season in the municipalities of Manuel Tames and El Salvador, tasks in which over 900 participants have already participated, representing the 14 unions in the province.
Since August 5, daily mobilizations began, in which 50 workers participate, as part of the Ernesto Che Guevara political-productive movement, which the CTC promotes in the easternmost territory in the country.
Dayanis Samón Matos, member of the provincial secretariat of the Organization, said that to date, nearly 50 hectares (ha) of the 1,200 in plan have been planted.
The contribution of the mobilized workers will help to providing sugar cane to supply the Argeo Martínez sugar mill, the only existing in Guantánamo and in charge of the production of sugar in the Cuban eastern territory.
Four unions participate each day, including workers of the headquarters of the CTC´s Provincial Committee, mobilizations that will continue during the months of August and September, said the leader.
At this time, priority is given to the municipality of El Salvador, whose lands were favored by the rains, unlike the fields of Manuel Tames, which were affected by drought.
Samón Matos stressed the response of workers to the call, and said that they are working hard, with the enthusiasm and commitment that means contributing to the recovery of the sugar sector in Guantánamo.
