Guantánamo – This Wednesday, the extracting and transferring of rice from the port of Santiago de Cuba to Guantánamo will begin. With this good news, the distribution of the product pending for the month of April begins, as well as the corresponding delivery for the month of March, for children under zero to thirteen years and people older than 65 years of age.

Williams Boet Cisneros, General Manager of the Wholesale Company of Food Products and Other Consumer Goods in the province, specified that initially each consumer will receive five pounds of the rice, and depending on the pace of product reception, the planned seven pounds will be completed, plus the additional rice for the age groups.

The representative of the wholesale company indicated that transportation, fuel, and other logistical services are guaranteed to expedite the transfer of rice to Guantánamo, where two pounds of sugar, ten ounces of beans, peas, and salt, pasta, and sardines are simultaneously delivered. These last two products are only for children under zero (0) to thirteen (13) and people older than 65 years.

Despite the restrictions imposed by the United States on the island, the Cuban government guarantees the importation of millions of dollars in food for the standard family basket, the main cause of the delay in the distribution of products to the population, who receive the different items in installments through the ration book.
