Guantanamo.- The Guantanamo people pay tribute to Guantanamo mambises who were a glorious page in the struggle for Cuba’s independence on the 130th anniversary of the resumption of the Necessary War.

On the night of February 23 and awaiting the 24th, a vigil was held, attended by a representation of the Guantanamo people and relatives of the captain of the Liberation Army José Serafín Rojas Rojas, combatant of the Three Wars for Independence, and of the Mambí Corporal Juan Ladislao Ramírez Rojas, chief of the original descendants.

The vigil, presided over by Yoel Pérez García, First Secretary of the Party in the province and Alis Azahares Torreblanca, Governor, was attended by the Major General and Hero of the Republic of Cuba Samuel Rodiles Plana, as well as representatives of the political and mass organizations of the territory, of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution and of the military institutions.

On his Facebook profile, the journalist Geovanis Ramírez Rojas expressed that today’s generations remember that on October 8, 1898, General Pedro Agustín Pérez and his liberating forces entered victoriously into the city of Guantánamo and the Plaza de Armas.

Among the combatants integrated into the Hatuey Regiment were Captain Serafín Rojas Rojas and Corporal Ladislao Ramírez Rojas and today the immortal remains of the two indigenous heroes, descendants of Cuban Taínos, enter the same Plaza on February 24, a source of pride for the Guantanamo people who honor them.

The rebellious spirit and wisdom of our Taino ancestors guide us to this day in the constant defense of the sovereignty of the sacred homeland. Cuba is a Taino word. The mortal remains of the fighters of the Liberation Army, Captain José Serafín Rojas Rojas and the Corporal and chief Juan Ladislao Ramírez Rojas, receive the homage of the people of Guantanamo, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the beginning of the Necessary War.

From the General Pedro A. Pérez House-Museum in the city of Guantánamo, the mortal remains are transferred to the Mausoleum of the Mambisado Guantanamero, a National Monument, accompanied by an honor guard and the people who admire and respect them.
