Guantanamo.- The two main Cuban beach volleyball duos were invited to the final Snow Volleyball Russian Championship, scheduled from the 14th to the 16th of this month, with which they will begin their international route in 2025.
Along with the Olympic champions Noslen Díaz and Jorge Luis Alayo, the Guantanamo natives Damián Gómez and Eblis Veranes, who qualified for the II Junior Pan American Games in Asunción 2025, next August, will participate in the novel modality.
«Cuba’s debut in this type of tournament is due to an invitation not only because of the results of Díaz and Alayo in the world circuit, but also in the Russian beach league in 2023 and 2024, in which they have all taken part, a privilege due to the high level of volleyball in general in that nation,» explained the head coach Francisco Álvarez Cutiño to JIT.
The former player, who finished seventh at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, will be accompanied by the experienced coach Juan Walfrido Salas and the national commissioner, Yumilka Ruiz, one of the legendary Morenas del Caribe, who has won titles under the five rings in Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000, as well as bronze in Athens 2004.
