Guantanamo.- The United Nations System (UNS) in Cuba its Action Plan in response to Hurricane Oscar to all members of the international community interested in supporting the effort under way in the worst hit regions in eastern Cuba.
Prepared in coordination with the national authorities, the plan envisages actions to be undertaken by UN agencies, funds and programs for the benefit of almost half a million people in the Guantánamo Province, mainly regarding water, sanitation and hygiene; temporary shelters, housing and early recovery; education;
logistics; health, and food security and nutrition, through the allocation of USD 33 million for implementation, six of which were already provided by the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), UN agencies, international cooperation partners.
According to Raúl Garcés Corra, UNS Coordination, Communications and Advocacy Officer in Cuba, the Plan will support efforts to meet the urgent needs of the most affected people, reactivate basic services, and advance towards recovery of the region and its residents’ livelihoods.
Together with the UN Country Team in Cuba, and with the support of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Francisco Pichón, UNS Resident Coordinator in Cuba, presents the Action Plan to the international community on November 1 in Havana and in New York the following week.
