Guantanamo.- As part of the collateral program for the 49th edition of the Political Song Festival, a panel dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of trova in the country’s audiovisual media and cultural spaces was held at the UNEAC provincial headquarters in the province of Guantánamo.
The meeting featured the participation of renowned figures in the genre such as Heidi Igualada, Alain Garrido, Fidel Díaz, and Rey Montalvo, who shared their views on the current challenges facing trova songs in the national media outlet.
The panel provided the historical account of the development of trova in Cuba, in which its essential role in defending national identity and its resistance to global processes of cultural consumption marked by Anglicisms and foreign aesthetics, was highlighted.
The speakers agreed on the need to increase trova’s presence in the media, with greater focus on audience development, as well as on the urgent need for specialized audience studies to allow for better projection of Cuban music content.
