Guantánamo.- On the 42nd anniversary of the constitution of the Carlos Juan Finlay Detachment, the Guantánamo University of Medical Sciences graduated more than seven hundred new professionals to start work in the health services, after receiving their graduate degrees in the different careers this Monday.

The ceremony took place at the Pedro A. Pérez Multipurpose Plaza in the capital city and was attended by the top political and government authorities of the territory, as well as students, teachers, family members and guests who enjoyed the performance featuring a group of young people of the house of higher education.

Dr. Yanet del Carmen Pérez Ferreiro, rector of the University of Medical Sciences, congratulated the graduates in her keynote speech and urged them to work with dedication and love, under the principles of the institution: “To train health professionals with high scientific, academic, political and human quality, based on teaching, assistance, research and innovation.”

The new graduation highlights nine graduates with the Scientific Merit Award status, while 72 graduates received their honor diploma, 26 of them in Medicine and the rest in Stomatology, Nursing, Health Information System, Hygiene and Epidemiology, Optometry and Optics, among other specialties of Courses by Meeting and Short Cycle Higher Technician.

Also ten doctors with a proven track record, who carried out internationalist missions, received the certificates of recognition, for being part of the avant-garde movement, Mario Muñoz Monroy, making them members of the quarry of cadres.

The new Comprehensive General Stomatologist Beatriz Ramírez Denis was selected as with a Grade Point Average of 4.83 points. She spoke on behalf of her classmates and thanked her family, teachers and friends, especially the Revolution for the opportunity to become professionals in Cuban medical science today.

The graduation ceremony of the University of Medical Sciences of Guantanamo was held this Monday, just days after commemorating the 130th anniversary of the resumption of the Cuban war of independence on February 24, 1895 and with the motivation of the 45th anniversary of Higher Medical Education in Guantanamo, the 102nd anniversary of the University Student Federation and the fortieth anniversary of the founding of the Doctor Agostinho Neto General Teaching Hospital.
