Yoel Pérez García, First Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, emphasized the need for urgent solutions to ensure the quality of education. Key priorities include teacher coverage, logistics, water supply, and school health certification by Public Health authorities.
In efforts to reorganize institutions, the University of Medical Sciences will require students to complete practical training in healthcare facilities within their municipalities. Similar measures will be applied to students in the Sports sector and at the University of Guantánamo. The Minister of Education is set to visit the province to assess operational conditions.
Forest fires remain a concern, with four active fires reported in different areas. Collaboration between forest rangers, firefighters, and the Ministry of the Interior is ongoing to control and investigate the fires.
Urban sanitation initiatives are in progress, but 400 open sewers still need attention. Fuel shortages are hindering the transportation of equipment to address this issue.
In the health sector, technical assessments are being carried out to repair ambulances and support vehicles, and efforts to restore electrical transformers are advancing.
Challenges with deliveries from the World Food Programme, pension payments, infant mortality rates, and the epidemiological situation were also discussed during the meeting.
Governor Alis Azahares Torreblanca urged municipal authorities to enhance autonomy and local management, emphasizing compliance with bank deposit protocols. The province’s authorities stressed the importance of monitoring critical indicators and seeking practical solutions within resource constraints.
