Guantánamo.- The thousand voluntary blood donations made monthly in Guantánamo ensure the success of this program, one of the most important in the Cuban healthcare system, emphasizes Mirta Rosales Chi, director of the Provincial Blood Bank.
She also explained that improvements have been made in this effort, thanks to the solidarity of Committees for the Defense of the Revolution members and workers, who come to the institution or to the various mobile blood banks to reaffirm the human commitment to saving lives free of charge and in a noble way.
The delivery of plasma for surgical procedures and the production of components such as red blood cell and platelet concentrates, among others needed for various surgeries, is thanks to the movement of voluntary donors in the territory, who systematically respond to the call of voluntary donation.
Likewise, the program seeks to include more young people with a sense of altruism, explained Mirta Rosales Chi, director of the institution.
Voluntary blood donations are part of an intersectoral program involving all organizations. This program is supported by the work of family doctors and nurses and the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, helping to achieve the planned monthly donations of approximately 1,000 blood donations in the province.
