Guantanamo.- The maxim of contributing to the country from the neighborhood and the constituency is showed in the current Assembly of Accountability of the delegate to his voters in Guantanamo Province, meetings in which participants call for approaches involving the neighbors to search for solutions to the problems in the communities.
Juana Brooks Cotilla, Head of the Independent Department of Relations with Local Organs of People’s Power, reported that “since September 20, when the current Accountability process began, corresponding to the XVIII Term of Office, more than 800 accountability meetings have been held in the province, more than 35 percent of the 2,335 planned in the province until November 15 of this year.”
With the participation, to date, of more than 96 thousand Guantanamo residents, in most of the meetings the neighbors speak out for popular solutions such as carrying out voluntary work in the elimination of rubbish dumps and different environmental sanitation actions, the declaration of communities in the movement “My clean and beautiful city”; as well as visits to parents and families of young people disconnected from study or work, and of children who are on the streets until late at night and commit indiscipline.
The current process of Accountability is taking place at a time of complex political circumstances in the country, with a contraction of the economy, increased by the intensification of the financial blockade of the United States Government against the Island, which has an impact on daily life of the population.
For this reason, the meetings are centered on topics related to the repair of roads and water pipes, the supply of water to the population, instability in the collection of solid waste, the quality of bread and the problems with the collection of cash in different units through the extra box service.
