Guantanamo.- Specialists and park rangers from the Baracoa Conservation Department of Alejandro de Humboldt National Park (PNAH) and members of the Ministry of the Interior’s Forestry Corps are carrying out various fire prevention measures in the protected area.
Yordanis Turro Columbié, a specialist from this environmental unit, reported that these efforts are being implemented now because the period from January 1st to May 31st is considered high-risk for wildfires in the country.
Among the actions, Turro Columbié highlighted patrols to monitor prevention measures such as trails and forest roads, particularly in pine forests and scrublands, among other vegetation types.

Although environmental education activities are also carried out in schools and other centers in the five communities located in the area of Cuba’s most important protected area, the specialized staff’s interest focuses on objective actions for fire prevention.
