Guantanamo.- The pirate of the Caribbean has finally dropped his mask: it’s no longer just the false news that Venezuela and its leaders are drug traffickers, but he declared, without hesitation and with a fury that rhymes with madness, that he will impose a naval oil blockade on the Maduro government “until they return to the United States all the oil, land, and other assets they stole from us.”

Is this madness or imperial blindness? In an immediate statement released by the Bolivarian government’s Foreign Ministry, Caracas declared that it considers the White House’s assumption that Venezuela’s oil, land, and mineral wealth are its property a “reckless and grave threat,” and that the country “will defend its rights to free trade, navigation, free development, sovereignty, and national independence, and will never again be a colony of any empire or foreign power.”

In a manner very similar to that used by convicted President Donald Trump in the 21st century, decades earlier, on September 1, 1939, Nazi Adolf Hitler invaded Poland and began World War II, which for six years caused the deaths of tens of millions of people and the destruction of numerous cities.

The decadent but dangerous US empire seeks to seize Venezuela’s precious oil, a country with the world’s largest hydrocarbon reserves, and to achieve this, it violates international law and the sovereignty of nations.

Venezuela, in full exercise of the International Law that protects it, the Constitution, and the laws of the Republic, reaffirmed its sovereignty over all its resources and immediately proceeded, in accordance with the UN Charter, to fully exercise its freedom, jurisdiction, and sovereignty in the face of these warmongering threats.

It is time for the peoples of the world to rise up and, as the Cuban apostle José Martí said to his friend Manuel Mercado on May 18, 1895, “prevent, through the independence of Cuba, the United States from expanding throughout the Antilles and falling, with that added strength, upon our lands in America.”

Today, the peoples of the world must unite to prevent US imperialism from launching an aggression and a war of plunder against the homeland of Bolívar and then attempting to seize the riches of the countries of Latin America.

That is why the statement from the Bolivarian Foreign Ministry calls “on the people of the United States and the world to reject by all means this extravagant threat that once again reveals Donald Trump’s true intentions to steal the riches of the country that gave birth to the United Liberation Army of South America and our Liberator, Simón Bolívar. The people of Venezuela, in perfect popular, military, and police unity, will know how to defend their historical rights and triumph through the path of peace.”

Today more than ever, we must rise up in defense of Venezuela with a profound cry of NO TO WAR, YES TO PEACE.
