Guantanamo.- The Guantanamo Culture Week, one of the most relevant events in the Cuban Upper East, began its 46th edition with an act in honor to the renowned poet Regino Eladio Boti, on occasion of his 147th birth anniversary, on February 18th.

The San Rafael necropolis, a silent witness of memories, host the event where verses, anecdotes and music were performed by writers, troubadours and the poet’s grandson, Regino Rodríguez Boti, who also shared the significant contributions of the Guantanamo writer with the public so that his legacy endures among the new generations.

Eliomar Fuente Caboverde, municipal director of Culture, highlighted that this tribute marks the beginning of the Week every year, one of the reasons why it was created, to recall the importance of Boti as a pillar of the cultural identity of Guantanamo, one of the most important cultural figures of the 20th century on the island, a founding innovator of Cuban lyric poetry.

Throughout the program of activities, his figure was evoked in other activities, such as the national event for the Art Instructor Day, where the Olga Alonso Prize was awarded, recognition to those who make an invaluable contribution to Cuban culture and the National Festival of Artisanal Wines.

Other proposals of the Guantanamo culture week were a symbolic tour from the Mambisado Mausoleum to the José Martí Park, in which outstanding athletes, students and sports promoters highlighted the connection between sport and culture.
