In his words after the Angelus prayer, pronounced at noon hours from the window of his study in the Vatican Apostolic Palace before more than 20 thousand faithful and pilgrims gathered in St. Peter\u2019s Square, the Holy Father referred to this truce, which began this morning, and should last six weeks in its first phase.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Bishop of Rome expressed his gratitude to all the mediators who made possible the agreement for a cease-fire, and in general \u201cto all the parties involved in this important achievement,\u201d which put an end to Tel Aviv\u2019s attacks on the Strip, where more than 46,500 Palestinians were killed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope that what has been agreed will be immediately respected by the parties and that all the hostages can finally return home\u201d as well as the \u201chumanitarian aid will reach the people of Gaza even more quickly and in greater quantities since it is so urgently needed,\u201d Francis said.<\/p>\n
