And now they return to Cuba. A decade after presenting Cinderella at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo will once again grace that stage with one of their most acclaimed works: Core Meu, choreographed by their director, Jean-Christophe Maillot.

There will be three performances: Friday, May 16; Saturday, May 17; and Sunday, May 18. Tickets are already available at the theater’s box office.

Dance enthusiasts in Cuba are well aware of the company’s prestige. But for those unfamiliar, it is worth emphasizing that this is a world-class production.

Core Meu, the piece to be performed, artistically explores the impulses and emotions associated with trance and sacrifice. It presents folk dance as a ritual, evoking traditional expressions.

According to the company’s promotional materials, this ballet merges classical pointe technique with the distinct elements of one of Europe’s most popular dances: the tarantella.

The work proposes a journey to the Apulia region in the Mediterranean, an area rich in cultural convergence and deeply rooted local identity.

The score is performed live by musician Antonio Castrignanò and his ensemble, creating a complete experience: multiple dancers spinning to the rhythm of traditional drums.

Ultimately, it is a tribute to the primal spirit of dance.

CORE MEU
Choreography: Jean-Christophe Maillot
Assistant Choreography: Bernice Coppieters
Music: Antonio Castrignanò
Costume Design: Salvador Mateu Andujar
Lighting: Samuel Thery

Featuring Antonio Castrignanò and Taranta Sounds

Translated by Sergio A.
