{"id":13150,"date":"2025-06-10T15:12:16","date_gmt":"2025-06-10T19:12:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/?p=13150"},"modified":"2025-06-10T15:12:16","modified_gmt":"2025-06-10T19:12:16","slug":"ifad-experts-verify-progress-in-maisi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/ifad-experts-verify-progress-in-maisi\/","title":{"rendered":"IFAD Experts Verify Progress in Mais\u00ed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13152\" src=\"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/FIDA_Maisi.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"394\" height=\"463\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/FIDA_Maisi.jpg 394w, https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/FIDA_Maisi-255x300.jpg 255w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 394px) 100vw, 394px\" \/>Guantanamo.- Representatives of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), who visited the municipality of Mais\u00ed, expressed their satisfaction with the Guantanamo easternmost region&#8217;s progress in recovering from the damage caused by Hurricane Oscar and the use of the resources provided by this United Nations program.<\/p>\n<p>UN experts met with workers and managers from several Mais\u00ed Management Centers, including the Los Llanos Center, which is notable for its progress in recovering from the devastation caused by Hurricane Oscar in October 2024.<\/p>\n<p>This group has recovered 80 percent of the agricultural areas affected by the hydrometeorological phenomenon, which, in addition to Mais\u00ed, severely affected the municipalities of Baracoa, Im\u00edas, and San Antonio del Sur.<\/p>\n<p>During the visit to the Management Centers, visitors were able to observe the progress made in recovery, using the tools and other resources provided by the project for pruning, clearing, and regulating shade for coffee, as well as for other crops.<\/p>\n<p>They also observed improvements in administrative infrastructure with the supply of materials such as computers, fans, and air conditioners, which guarantee better working conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The United Nations experts also toured the Iraelda Marzo Basic Cooperative Production Unit (UBPC), near La M\u00e1quina, the chief town of Mais\u00ed.<\/p>\n<p>They emphasized actions to be taken to strengthen, in particular, the capacities of coffee and cocoa producing cooperatives (two important crops for the local and national economy) and to strengthen the administrative management of these peasant associations.<\/p>\n<p>IFAD is the UN&#8217;s global fund dedicated to transforming agriculture, rural economies, and food systems.
