{"id":13493,"date":"2025-07-25T13:08:04","date_gmt":"2025-07-25T17:08:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/?p=13493"},"modified":"2025-07-25T13:08:04","modified_gmt":"2025-07-25T17:08:04","slug":"little-transformers-of-climate-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/little-transformers-of-climate-change\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Little Transformers of Climate Change&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13494\" src=\"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/climate-change_guantanamo.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"899\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/climate-change_guantanamo.jpeg 899w, https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/climate-change_guantanamo-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.radioguantanamo.icrt.cu\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/climate-change_guantanamo-768x513.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 899px) 100vw, 899px\" \/>Guant\u00e1namo.- To ensure the development of the activities of the &#8220;Little Transformers of Climate Change&#8221; interest group, school supplies were delivered to girls and boys, who participate in this educational initiative at the Emiliano Su\u00e1rez Bravo School. in Guant\u00e1namo Province.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative is part of the &#8220;Climate Change Cuba&#8221; project, developed by the Italian Agency for International Development Cooperation (AICS), together with the Cuban Ministry of Agriculture (MINAG), the Institute of Agroforestry Research (INAF), the Institute of Fundamental Research in Tropical Agriculture (INIFAT), and the International Committee for the Development of the Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean (CISP).<\/p>\n<p>This contribution will strengthen environmental learning spaces, where young people not only acquire knowledge about climate change but also develop practical skills to become active agents of environment care.<\/p>\n<p>The materials provided\u2014notebooks, pencils, and teaching aids\u2014will help support environmental education from an early age, foster critical thinking and ecological awareness, monitor school projects linked to the local environment, and encourage children&#8217;s active participation in community solutions to climate change.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Following the visit to the school, the project coordinators\u2014Porfirio Villamet, from the GAF Forestry Base Unit in Guant\u00e1namo, and Wilmer Torac, INAF researcher and coordinator of the &#8220;Cuba Climate Change&#8221; project\u2014along with representatives from the AICS, visited the Lino Mercedes \u00c1lvarez CCS in the Reparto Obrero Neighborhood, one of the production sites, to monitor progress in planting tomato and other vegetable seeds.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">These actions are part of an AICS donation distributed for crop recovery after Hurricane Oscar, which affected numerous communities in eastern Cuba.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"> The planting is positively yielding: the first tomato crops have already begun to bear fruit, and progress is currently being made in experimentation in different soil and climate scenarios, with the aim of evaluating the resilience of the seeds and ensuring broad and sustainable production.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Guant\u00e1namo.- To ensure the development of the activities of the &#8220;Little Transformers of Climate Change&#8221; interest group, school supplies were delivered to girls and boys, who participate in this educational initiative at the Emiliano Su\u00e1rez Bravo School. in Guant\u00e1namo Province.
